পাশ্চাত্যের ভারত–বিদ্বেষের ইতিহাস দীর্ঘ। এখানে আমরা তার সামান্য কিছু উদাহরণ উপস্থাপিত করছি।
আমরা ভারত ও ভারতীয়দের সম্পর্কে ফ্রান্সিস জ্যাভিয়ার–এর বহুসংখ্যক উক্তির মধ্যে দুটি উক্তি দিয়ে শুরু করছি, এই জেজুইট পাদ্রি পাশ্চাত্যে “পূর্ব ভারতীয় দ্বীপপুঞ্জে প্রেরিত প্রচারক” বলে পরিচিত আর পাশ্চাত্যের প্রচারযন্ত্রের প্রভাবে এমনকী ভারতেও সম্মানিত। এদেশে তাঁর নামে কুড়িটিরও বেশি শিক্ষা–প্রতিষ্ঠান রয়েছ।
প্রসঙ্গত একথা বিশেষভাবে উল্লেখযোগ্য যে আমরা (ভারতের লোকায়ত দর্শনের ঐতিহ্য মেনে) ধর্মবিহীন, তবে একই সঙ্গে তাবৎ ধর্মান্তরের বিরোধী। কেননা আমরা মনে করি যে ধর্মান্তর সাংস্কৃতিক বৈচিত্র্যের বিরোধী আর তার ফলে সাংস্কৃতিক প্রতিবেশতত্ত্বের পক্ষে একান্ত ক্ষতিকারক। ধর্ম কীভাবে পৃথিবীকে সাংস্কৃতিকভাবে দরিদ্রতর করেছে ইতিহাস তা প্রমাণ করে।
L’histoire de l’indophobie en Occident est longue . Nous présentons ici quelques échantillons textuelles qui exposent et focalisent cette phobie .
Nous commençons par deux des nombreuses énonciations dédaigneuses et insultantes de François Xavier à l’égard des Indiens. Ce missionnaire jésuite qui détestait l’Inde et les Indiens est désigné l’apôtre des Indes en occident chrétien et par suite de la propagande sans répit de l’église et des médias occidentaux il est respecté comme un saint homme même en Inde où il y a plus d’une vingtaine d ‘établissements d’enseignement qui portent son nom .
Au sujet de la culture indienne et de la colonialization britanique de l’Inde les idées de Marx ressemblent aux idées de T. S. Macaulay
À propos , il nous faut noter que bien qu’irréligieux (dans la tradition indienne de la philosophie Lokayata), nous sommes opposés à toute sorte de conversion religieuse, parce que nous croyons que la conversion religieuse est contre la diversité culturelle de la société humaine et par conséquent destructeur de l’écologie culturelle de notre planète. L’histoire démontre comment les conversions religieuses ont causé l’appauvrissement culturel de la terre.
History of Indophobia in the West is long. Here we present a few textual examples of this phobia.
We begin with two of the many abusive utterances of Francis Xavier on the Indians. This Jesuit padre who hated India and the Indians, has been avowed as the Apostle of the Indies in the West and as a result of the incessant propaganda of the Church and that of the westen media, is respected as a holy man even in India where more than twenty educational institutions bear his name.
Incidentally we must mention that though irreligious (in the Indian tradition of lokayata philosophy) we are opposed to any sort of religious conversion, because, we believe that religious conversion is against cultural diversity of the human society and consequently pernicious to the cultural ecology of our planet. History demonstrates how religious conversions have caused cultural impoverishment of the earth .

যেহেতু ভারতীয়রা কালো ওরা ওদের নিজেদের রঙকে সবচেয়ে সুন্দর বলে মনে করে, ওরা বিশ্বাস করে ওদের দেবতারা কালো ৷ এ কারণে ওদের বেশির ভাগ দেবমূর্তিগুলি যতটা কালো হওয়া সম্ভব ততটাই কালো, আর তার ওপর সাধারণত মূর্তিগুলি এমনই তেলমাখা থাকে যে তার থেকে দুর্গন্ধ বের হয়, আর সেগুলি দেখতে যতটা কুৎসিৎ আর বীভৎস ঠিক ততটাই নোংরা বলে মনে হয় ৷

ইংরেজদের হস্তক্ষেপ যন্ত্রে সুতো কাটার লোকগুলোকে ল্যাংকাশায়ারে রেখে দিয়েছিল বাংলায় রেখেছিল তাঁতীকে, অথবা হিন্দু সুতো কাটিয়ে আর তাঁতী ওই দুজনকেই ঝেঁটিয়ে বিদায় করে দিয়ে এই আধা বর্বর, আধা সভ্য ছোট ছোট জনগোষ্ঠীর অর্থনৈতিক ভিত্তি চুরমার করে তাদের লোপাট করে দিল, আর এভাবে উৎপন্ন করল সবচেয়ে বড়, আর সত্যি কথা বলতে গেলে একমাত্র সামাজিক বিপ্লব যার কথা কেউ কখনো শোনে নি।
আমরা একথা ভুলতে পারিনা যে এই ছোট ছোট জনসম্প্রদায়গুলো জাতিভেদ আর দাসপ্রথায় দূষিত হয়ে গিয়েছিল, তারা মানুষকে বাইরের পরিস্থিতির অধীশ্বর করে তোলার বদলে বাইরের পরিস্থিতির অধীন করে রেখেছিল, তারা আত্মোন্নয়নশীল সামাজিক অবস্থাকে চির–পরিবর্তনহীন প্রাকৃতিক নিয়তিতে পরিণত করেছিল আর এর মাধ্যমে নৃশংস করে তোলা প্রকৃতির উপাসানার প্রবর্তন করেছিল, আর প্রদর্শন করেছিল তার অবনতি যাতে প্রকৃতির অধীশ্বর মানুষ, বাঁদর হনুমান আর গোরু সাব্বালা–র প্রতি ভক্তিতে হাঁটু গেঁড়ে মাটিতে বসে পড়ত।

প্রায়ই আমরা দেখতে পাই ক্রমশ আরো বেশি লোক বাপ্তিস্ম–র রহস্যময় অনুষ্ঠানে, খ্রিস্টের আশ্রয়ে নতুন জীবন শুরু করতে আসছে। যখন লোকে স্বেচ্ছায় পাপ স্বীকার করে জানায় যে তারা শয়তান আর তার সবরকম কর্মকাণ্ডকে বর্জন করে খ্রিষ্টের সঙ্গে যোগ দিচ্ছে আর তাঁকে রাজা আর ঈশ্বর বলে বিশ্বাস করছে… তখনকার ওই মুহূর্তটা সত্যি একটা পবিত্র মুহূর্ত। বিভৎস দেবী কালীর মূর্তি আর হাতির আকৃতি গণেশের পরিবর্তে খ্রিস্ট আর তাঁর পরম পবিত্র মার শান্তিময় রূপ যখন ঘরে ঘরে স্থান পাবে তখন দিব্যলোক দারুণ আনন্দে পরিপূর্ণ হবে। মূর্তি আর মিথ্যা দেবতাদের উদ্দেশে তাদের হিংস্র আর রক্তাক্ত বলির পরিবর্তে লোকে প্রেম, শান্তি আর করুণায় পরিপূর্ণ খ্রিস্টের কাছে যাচ্ছে দেখতে পাওয়াটা একটা পরম আশির্বাদ।

It is a sacred moment when people willingly come to confess that they reject Satan and all his works, and join Christ and believe in Him as King and God, …. It is a trememdous joy in heaven when the houses with the aweful idols of goddess Kali and the elephant formed Ganis, are replaced with the peaceful figures of Christ and His all-holy Mother. It is a great blessing to see people replace their violent and bloody sacrifices to idols and false gods, with their drawing near Christ who is full love, peace, and compassion.

১৯৯১ সালে পাদ্রি ইগনাতিয়স (সেনিস) পশ্চিমবঙ্গে আসেন… আসার অল্প কিছুদিন পর পাদ্রি ইগনাতিয়স অর্থোডক্স খ্রিস্টমণ্ডলীর জনসেবা সমিতি প্রতিষ্ঠা করলেন। দুটি কারণে এই সমিতি গঠন করা হয়েছিল: প্রথমত যেখানে বাস্তবিকভাবে কোনো সমাজসেবার ব্যবস্থা নেই সেই রাজ্যে দুর্গত আর বুভুক্ষুদের প্রাথমিক চিকিৎসা আর খাদ্য বিতরণ, আর দ্বিতীয়ত যেকোনো ধরনের ধর্মপ্রচারের কাজকর্মকে নিষিদ্ধ করা পশ্চিমবঙ্গের কম্যুনিস্ট সরকারের হাত থেকে অর্থোডক্স মিশনকে রক্ষা করা। ভারতীয়দের শারীরিক প্রয়োজন মেটাতে গিয়ে মিশনারিরা অর্থোডক্স ধর্মবিশ্বাস ছড়িয়ে দিতেও সক্ষম হন। ১৯৯৫ সাল থেকে অর্থোডক্স খ্রিস্টীয় মিশন কেন্দ্র প্রতি বছর কলকাতায় একাধিক দল পাঠায়…২০০৬ সালে পল মার্টিন নামে একজন মার্কিন পাদ্রি অর্থোডক্স খ্রিস্টীয় মিশন কেন্দ্রের একটি দলের অঙ্গ হিসেবে কলকাতার ক্ষুধার্তদের আধ্যাত্মিক আর শারীরিক খাদ্য পরিবেশন করার জন্য ভারতে গিয়েছিলেন।…
আমাদের মিশনের দলনেতা , পাদ্রি স্টিফেন কালোস, আমাদের সাবধান করার জন্য বলেছিলেন যে কলকাতা আমাদের সমস্ত ইন্দ্রিয়কে প্রচণ্ডভাবে পীড়িত করবে, আর তিনি ঠিক কথাই বলেছিলেন। দুটো চোখ, দুটো কান — তবে বিশেষ করে নাসারন্ধ্র পীড়িত হওয়ার কারণের কোনো অভাব ঘটে নি।
…প্রতিটি রাস্তার ওপর দেবতার থান — কালী, কৃষ্ণ, শিব, দুর্গা আর অন্য সব দেবদেবীর মন্দির। তবে ওই সবগুলোকে ছাড়িয়ে ওপরে উঠেছে কালী–মন্দির, এই মন্দির কোনো হিন্দু দেবতাকে উৎসর্গ করা পৃথিবীর সবচেয়ে বিরাট মন্দিরগুলোর একটা। তাবৎ বিচার–বুদ্ধি আর শালীনতাকে আঘাত করা ক্ষয়ে যাওয়া আর আদিম এই মন্দিরটা রয়েছে কালিঘাট নামে পরিচিত শহরের একটা অংশে, টেরিজা মার মুমূর্ষু–সদনের ঠিক পাশেই আর কলকাতায় আমাদের আশ্রয় পবিত্র রূপান্তর গ্রিক অর্থোডক্স গির্জা থেকে বাড়ির কয়েকটা সারির পর। মনে রাখবেন , এখানে প্রতিদিন অর্ঘ্য হিসেবে পশুবলি হয়, আর পবিত্রের মধ্যে পবিত্রতম এই মন্দির পয়সার বিনিময়ে সবার কাছে খোলা থাকে।…
এই অন্ধকার কালী আর তার আবেদন আমি বুঝতে পারি না। আমি বুঝতে পারি না তার নিরালোক হৃদয়। অথচ পশ্চিমবঙ্গে কালী হল সবচেয়ে জনপ্রিয়, ধ্বংসের দেবী, কালো, বর্ণনা করতে গেলে বলতে হয় রক্তাক্ত জিভ, গলায় মানুষের খুলির একটা মালা আর পরনে কাটা হাতের একটা ঘাঘরা। অর্থোডক্স খ্রিস্টধর্মে ধর্মান্তরিত আর পশ্চিমবঙ্গে আমাদের পর্যটনের পথ–প্রদর্শক চেরুবিম (হেরুবিম) ঘোষ নামে একটি তরুণ আমাকে জানাল যে এক সময়ে সে কালীর ভক্ত ছিল… ব্রিটিশ ভারত সম্পর্কে কিছু কিছু ব্যাপার জানা থাকায় আমি তাকে ঠগ বা ঠগিদের কথা জিজ্ঞেস করলাম।ওই ঠগিরা ছিল কালী–উপাসক একটা সম্প্রদায়, তাদের ধর্মাচারমূলক নরহত্যা উনিশ শতকে নিষিদ্ধ হয়। চেরুবিম বলল ধর্মাচারমূলক নরহত্যা এখনও অনুষ্ঠিত হয়, অবশ্য প্রকাশ্যে নয়, আর ঠগরা দীর্ঘকাল ধরে আত্মগোপন করেছে।
[In 1991 Fr. Ignatios (Sennis), a hieromonk from Mount Athos, arrived in West Bengal to continue Fr. Athanasios’ work. Soon after his arrival Fr. Ignatios established the Philanthropic Society of the Orthodox Church. The society was formed for two reasons: first, to provide basic health care and food for the destitute and starving in a state that has practically no social services; and second, to protect the Orthodox mission from the West Bengal Communist regime, which prohibits any kind of missionary activity. While ministering to the physical needs of the Indian people, the missionaries are also able to spread the Orthodox Faith.
Since 1995 the Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC) has been sending teams to Calcutta annually… In 2006, an American priest, Fr. Paul Martin, traveled to India as part of an OCMC team, in order to spiritually and physically feed the hungry of Calcutta.
Our mission team leader, Fr. Stephen Callos, warned us that Calcutta would be an assault to all of the senses, and he was right. The eyes, the ears and the nostrils — but especially the nostrils — find ample reason to take offense.
… shrines to the gods on every street — shrines to Kali, Krishna, Shiva, Durga, and others… But towering above them all is Kali Temple, one of the largest temples in the world dedicated to any Hindu deity. In a section of town called Kalighat it stands, an assault to all reason and civility, decayed and primeval, just next door to Mother Theresa’s Home for the Dying and only blocks away from Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, our home in Calcutta. Gangs of Kali priests gather in front, hawking, gesticulating. Take note: daily animal sacrifices are offered here, and the sanctum sanctorum is open to all for a price!
I do not understand this dark Kali and her appeal. I do not understand her heart of darkness. Yet in Bengal Kali is most popular of all, the goddess of destruction, black, depicted with bloody tongue, a necklace of skulls and a skirt of severed arms. Cherubim Ghosh, a young convert to Orthodox Christianity and our guide in West Bengal, tells me that he had once been devoted to Kali and at first had difficulty resisting the almost incessant nagging of his mother and companions to return to the goddess. Knowing something about British India, I ask him about the Thaggies or “Thugs,” a sect of Kali worshippers whose practice of ritual murder had been outlawed in the nineteenth century. He says that ritual murder is still practiced, though not openly, and that the Thugs have long been underground.

Ignatios Sennis est un moine orthodoxe grecque qui était le prêtre à l’unique église orthodoxe grecque à Kolkata et le chef de la mission orthodoxe grecque en Inde de 1991 à 2004 . Le succès exemplaire de ses tactiques astucieuses de prosélytisme en Inde lui a acquis la nomination au poste de l’évêque de Madagascar.
Sennis et ses acolytes masquent leur prosélytisme en exploitant la pauvreté d’une classe d’Indiens démunis . L’Inde est un pays laïcque ; Ces vendeurs de Dieu y viennent de la Grèce où l’orthodoxie est la religion officielle de l’État . Ignatios Sennis is a Greek Orthodox monk who was the priest of the unique Greek Orthodox church in Calcutta and the Head of the Greek Orthodox mission in India from 1991-2004. Due to the success of his cunning tactics of proselytization Sennis has been promoted to the post of Greek Orthodox Bishop of Madagascar.
India is a secular country ; Sennis comes to in thi country from Greece where Orthodoxy is the state religion and the proselytism of the other religions is forbidden and severely punished by the administration. The catechism is de facto mandatory part of the curriculum of the school. A Greek citizen who is not Orthodox would not be appointed to an important post in the government or in the country’s army. Lately the Saint-Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church denounced yoga declaring that it is totally incompatible with Christian Orthodox faith and that it has no place in the life of Christians.]
